An Anarchist Squint: What we can learn about Social Change from Anarchism

James Scott is Sterling Professor of Political Science, Director, Agrarian Studies and Professor of Anthropology at the Institution for Social and Policy Studies at Yale University. He is one of the most famous social scientists at the moment and author of celebrated books like The Moral Economy of the Peasant: Subsistence and Rebellion in Southeast Asia (1976), Weapons of the Weak: Everyday Forms of Peasant Resistance (1985) and Seeing Like a State: How Certain Schemes to Improve the Human Condition Have Failed (1997). His most recent book is Two Cheers for Anarchism: Six Easy Pieces on Autonomy, Dignity, and Meaningful Work and Play (2012).

His research concerns political economy, comparative agrarian societies, theories of hegemony and resistance, peasant politics, revolution, Southeast Asia, theories of class relations and anarchism.
