[Nijmegen] The Civil Side of the Rojava Revolution: a presentation by returning civil volunteers

Two members of Plan C (UK) who have returned from volunteering in civil society in Rojava will discuss their experiences and how they think the revolution is transmitting in the area.

The revolution in Rojava continues to develop geographically and deepen socially. The fact that a revolution based on political autonomy and women's rights is flourishing at this time and in this region is a source of inspiration for many people across the world. But how is the revolution actually spreading and beyond the frontlines what does life look like in the Democratic Federation of Northern Syria?

We will also be joined by Aviva, who is working at the 'representation of the selfadminstration of Rojava' in Den Haag.

The evening will be in English due to the speakers, translation into Dutch will be possible if needed.

This evening we will be hosting three speakers:

• Peter Loo and Sarah Patton spent 9 and 6 months respectively working in Qamishlo in Rojava in the civil structures of the revolution. They went as part of Plan C's Rojava solidarity cluster. Plan C is a UK based anti-capitalist organisation formed in 2011.
• Aviva is working at the 'representation of the self administration of Northern Syria' in Den Haag - this office functions as a not officially recognized embacy for Roajavans in the Benelux. They build ties to local governments, they European Union (EU), the United Nations (UN) and institutions that support the progress of selfadministration in Northern Syria. rojavabenelux.nl

De civiele kant van de Rojava Revolutie: een presentatie door terugkerende vrijwilligers

Twee leden van Plan C (UK) zijn teruggekeerd van een periode waarbij ze zich maatschappelijk hebben ingezet voor in Rojava. Ze zullen vertellen over hun ervaringen en hun opvattingen delen over hoe de revolutie zich verspreid in deze regio.

De revolutie van Rojava blijft zich geografisch ontwikkelen en sociaal verdiepen. Het feit dat deze revolutie, gebaseerd is op politieke autonomie en vrouwenrechten, zich vandaag de dag ontvouwd, en in deze regio, is een bron van inspiratie voor velen over de hele wereld. Maar hoe verspreid deze revolutie zich eigenlijk? En hoe ziet het leven achter de frontlinies er eigenlijk uit in de Democratische Federatie van Noord-Syrië?

Tevens zal Aviva zich aansluiten. Zij is werkzaam op de 'Representatie van het zelfbestuur van Rojava' in Den Haag.

De bijeenkomst zal vanwege de sprekers in het Engels zijn, Nederlandse vertaling wanneer nodig is mogelijk.

De bijeenkomst zal drie sprekers hosten:

• Peter Loo en Sarah Patton zijn 9 en 6 maanden in Rojava geweest. Daar waren zij o.a. actief in Qamishlo waar ze hebben bijgedrage aan de maatschappelijke structuren van de revolutie. Zij gingen als onderdeel van een campagne van Plan C’s Rojava Solidarity Cluster. Plan C is een in Groot Brittanië gevestigde antikapitalistische organisatie, opgericht in 2011.
• Aviva werkt op de representative van de zelfadministratie van Noord Syrië in Den Haag – dit werkt al s een niet officieeel erkende ambassade voor mensen uit Rojava. Zij proberen banden aan te knopen met lokale overheden, de Europese Unie (EU), de Verenigde Naties (UN) en organisaties die de ontwikkeling van het zelfbestuur in Noord-Syrië steunen. rojavabenelux.nl
